Istanbul Turkey

I absolutely loved this city when I visited in 2018 and would say it is one of my favorite destinations to date. There is a lot to do, and getting around without a car is very easy, even for someone who does not speak the language. There are some great places to eat and a lot to see in this incredibly old city.

I would highly recommend taking several hours and checking out the grand bazaar. Even if you don’t buy anything, the shops have such a variety that it’s worth checking out.

Consider taking a river boat tour as the riverfront and views of the city were beautiful and very relaxing. You can get off in a small town which is full of tourist trap shops but still fun to walk around.

Another typical thing to do in Istanbul but still worth checking out is the Hagia Sophia. It has changed hands several times as the city has been concurred and been both a mosque and a church. Both the interior and exterior are beautiful and full of history. Keep in mind that there can be long lines to enter so plan ahead.

There are some streets that are lined with high end shopping if that’s your thing and certain sections have side streets with outdoor bars to watch soccer and have a beer. Keep in mind that the alcohol selection will be limited since Turkey is a Muslim country and they only had around 3 options for beer when I was there. Even with the limited selection the experience was a lot of fun, event for a non soccer fan. I would recommend giving these outdoor bars a try for a lively night out.
